The challenge
Piezo.com needed a digital platform that could do several things well at once: present highly technical products clearly, support both standard purchases and custom engineering pathways, and help different types of users find the right next step. The challenge was to make a specialized product and knowledge ecosystem feel organized, credible, and usable without oversimplifying the underlying technical value.
The solution
Olibro built a Shopify-based experience designed to balance technical depth with commercial clarity. We structured the website to support product discovery, application-based exploration, and conversion paths for both off-the-shelf and custom solutions. The result is a stronger digital presence that helps Piezo.com serve engineers, buyers, and OEM partners through a cleaner and more purposeful user journey.
Piezo.com is the e-commerce and engineering storefront for Mide Technology’s piezoelectric transducer line — now part of Hutchinson. Olibro has been the sole design and development partner since 2018, building the Shopify platform from scratch and running the custom backend that powers it.
The problem
Piezo’s buyers aren’t casual shoppers. They’re engineers specifying actuators, sensors, and harvester components, and procurement officers running purchase orders against B2B terms. The legacy WordPress catalog couldn’t support either workflow well — product data was hard to maintain, quoting was manual, and the OEM custom-piezo conversation lived entirely outside the website. A real Shopify build was needed, plus systems Shopify doesn’t ship with.
What we delivered
- A Shopify build, ground up. Full theme, all page templates, product detail, collection, kit, and learn pages, with the legacy catalog migrated through Excelify — products, weights, metafields, customer records — and Accentuate handling the per-product custom fields the engineering team needed to keep accurate.
- A custom PDF quote & PO generator. Shopify doesn’t natively support a quote-instead-of-buy flow for B2B, so we built one. The cart submits to a backend at piezo.olibro.net that generates a branded PDF quote or purchase order, opens it in a new tab, and routes the request into the sales pipeline. The same backend serves sister site endaq.com.
- An interactive Custom Piezo Builder. A configurator that lets customers specify and quote a custom transducer online — the kind of front-of-funnel engineering tool that turns a phone-call inquiry into a structured lead.
- Eight years of backend stewardship. Tier pricing, cart sharing, HubSpot CRM forms, Search 360, Rewind backups, Serpstat SEO monitoring, GitHub version control, and a clean repository split when the piezo and endaq backends were decoupled into independent codebases. Quote generator timeouts, cross-browser fixes, server migrations to client-managed infrastructure — all handled.
Why it matters
Piezo is the long engagement. April 2018 to today, across seven phases of work, through a parent-company acquisition by Hutchinson and an account restructure with the engineering team in 2025. The site sells a technical product to technical buyers, and the systems behind it — quoting, configurator, backend — are what make that work. The OEM Manufacturing landing page added in 2025 extends the same logic into a new buyer journey.
