The challenge
KCIS Foundation required an engaging and informative website to raise awareness about their mission, showcase their initiatives, and encourage donations. The primary challenge was to present their various programs, events, and impact in a way that connects emotionally with potential donors, while also providing clear and simple pathways for visitors to get involved.
The solution
We collaborated closely with the KCIS team to build a comprehensive digital platform that integrates storytelling, multimedia, and seamless user experience. Key solutions included:
Developed user-friendly event pages to highlight KCIS’s fundraising events and galas, including past and upcoming events with engaging visuals.
Integrated an intuitive donation portal, allowing users to contribute to the foundation’s efforts with both recurring and one-time donation options.
Designed content pages with emotional appeal to highlight the foundation’s programs and achievements, such as the documentary film “Jila” and their initiatives in Africa.
Keep Children in School Foundation is a US-based nonprofit working to keep kids in classrooms — in Iran, in Afghan refugee communities, and across families facing hard times. We’ve been their digital partner since March 2022, through two full builds and an ongoing care program.
The problem
KCIS came to us with a clear mission and a website that wasn’t built to carry it. Donors needed to give in multiple ways — to general funds, to specific programmes, to dedicated memorial events, to gala tickets — and the existing site couldn’t hold any of it together. For a nonprofit, every fumble at the donation step is a real loss. The site had to look like the cause and work like a payment system.
What we delivered
- Two full website generations, not a refresh in between. V1 launched in late 2023 on WordPress and Divi, covering the homepage, four programme pages, a Mentorship section with its own taxonomy and applications, an events system, blog, and full dropdown navigation. V2 followed in March 2024 with a redesigned Dedicated Events architecture, refreshed banners and category pages, and a new Jila’s Dream programme honouring Jila Kashef’s legacy.
- A donation stack that grew up with them. We started on Zeffy, customising the embedded forms and resolving the geographic block that prevented Iranian-origin donors from giving. When the organisation outgrew Zeffy, we migrated the entire donation system to GiveWP on PayPal — rebuilding form flows, confirmation emails, and admin notifications from scratch. Later phases added a new PayPal SDK integration, a Zelle pathway, and a Q1 2026 reconciliation analysis with CashNet evaluated as an alternative.
- Dedicated Events — a real product inside the site. A custom system that lets donors create personalised fundraising pages in honour of loved ones, each with its own landing page, form, and thank-you flow. Rebuilt in V2 to scale cleanly as more families used it.
- A managed VPS and a monthly checkup. When traffic and donations outgrew shared hosting, we migrated KCIS to an Olibro-managed VPS and ran a full optimisation pass — WebP, caching tuned around the donation forms, plugin rationalisation, GTM, a Semrush technical audit. Monthly server checks have run since July 2025.
Why it matters
A missed $5,000 donation isn’t an inconvenience for KCIS — it’s a child’s school year. Four years in, our role has shifted from website builder to long-term digital partner: we know the donation stack the way the team knows its donors, and when something fails the day before a gala, the people fixing it already understand what’s at stake.
